Run Claude Code remotely — the session stays home, you don't have to
"Remote" doesn't have to mean moving your session to the cloud. Your repo, your credentials, your environment are on your machine — that's where the agent should run. What you actually want is to watch and control that session from wherever you are.
TermIQ does exactly that: the CLI wraps your terminal in a relay session, and any of your devices can attach to it — live output, full scrollback, real input.
Why not just SSH from the phone?
- Reachability: SSH needs a public IP, VPN, or tunnel to your laptop. TermIQ needs one outbound connection — works behind NAT, hotel Wi-Fi, LTE.
- Scope: SSH exposes a whole shell. TermIQ shares the one session you started, and nothing else.
- Mobile UX: a raw SSH client on a phone is keyboard pain. TermIQ parses permission prompts into tap-able buttons and sends push notifications when the agent needs you.
The security model, honestly
The terminal stream is end-to-end encrypted between your machine and your viewing device — keys never leave your devices, and the relay server routes bytes it cannot read (a blind relay). The one honest caveat: push notifications are standard Web Push, so they carry only status metadata ("a terminal needs input") — not what the terminal asked, unless you switch that on yourself.
Two minutes to set up
npx @termiq/cli
Run it on your machine, open termiq.io on any device, and your terminal follows you. Free tier: 1 agent, 2 terminals, no card.
FAQ
- Is this SSH?
- No. SSH needs a reachable host (public IP or VPN) and gives whoever connects a full shell. TermIQ makes one outbound WebSocket from your machine to a relay — nothing inbound — and shares exactly one thing: the terminal session you started.
- Can the relay server read my terminal?
- No. The terminal stream is end-to-end encrypted between your devices (XSalsa20-Poly1305); the server routes ciphertext. Push notifications carry status metadata only — that a terminal is waiting, not what it asked. If you would rather read the question from the notification shade, the agent has a setting that sends that text; it is off unless you turn it on, because it means the server sees it.
- What if my connection drops mid-session?
- The session lives on your machine, not in the browser. Reconnect from any device and you are back in the same terminal with scrollback intact. Typed input is delivered reliably (sliding-window with acknowledgements), so characters are not lost on flaky mobile networks.
- Can two devices watch the same session?
- Yes — desktop and phone can view the same terminal simultaneously; input control follows the device that typed last.
