TermIQ vs SSH: which one for running a terminal from your phone

Let's be clear about one thing first: SSH is not the competition, and it is not going anywhere. It is the right tool for administering a machine remotely, and nothing here replaces that. The two solve different problems that happen to overlap on one screen — your phone.

The honest split: SSH gives you a whole machine, if you can reach it. TermIQ gives you one session, wherever you are, and tells you when it needs you.

When SSH is the right answer

When TermIQ is the right answer

The honest verdict

If your problem is "I need to reach my machine", SSH already solves it. If your problem is "I don't know when my agent needs me", SSH does not address that at all, and no amount of tunnelling will — it has no notion of a prompt waiting for input.

Most people who use TermIQ keep using SSH for everything else. That is the expected setup, not a compromise.

FAQ

Is TermIQ a replacement for SSH?
No. SSH is a general-purpose remote shell; TermIQ relays one interactive session and adds notifications and one-tap prompt answers. If you need to administer a machine remotely, use SSH. If you need to know the moment an agent stops and answer it from your phone, that is what TermIQ does.
Why not just SSH into my laptop from my phone?
You can, if your laptop is reachable (public IP, VPN, or tunnel) and you are willing to type in a mobile terminal. The bigger gap is awareness: SSH will not tell you that the agent has been waiting for twenty minutes — you have to go and look.
Does TermIQ send my terminal content to a server?
Encrypted bytes pass through the relay, which cannot read them — keys stay on your devices. Push notifications carry status metadata only ("a terminal needs input"), not the terminal's own words. Showing the question itself in the notification is a setting on the agent, off by default, precisely because turning it on means the server sees that text.
Can I use both?
That is the common setup. SSH for administering the box, TermIQ for the long-running agent session you want to follow from your phone. They do not conflict.
